The Spinset

Pop Punk Legends from Melbourne, Combining powerful, harmonious vocals with hard hitting drums and crunching guitars into perfection that leaves you wanting more.
 of course who wouldn't!
We got to the bottom of some hard hitting questions that we know you all want to know about these boys :).

If you could be any"creature'' what would it be?
We'd be our own "mascot" the Duckosaur cos he's a badass!

If someone hasnt heard your music before describe it to them?
Our music is fun, fast and full of energy and loud guitars and drums. Our lyrics are about relationships, life and having fun.

Do you think that ''pop punk is still alive''?
Pop punk is definitely still alive. You can see it with older bands such as New Found Glory, as well as younger bands such as The Wonder Years and Veara.

Your cover fridays are amazing,if you could cover any song what would it be?
Thank you! And we like so many different styles of music, and we intend on trying to cover EVERY SINGLE ONE! Haha nah we just like to play songs that we love and have influenced our band, while putting our own spin on them at the same time!

If you had to save the world how would you guys do it?
It would probably be a situation where they needed 5 males with incredible good looks, to defeat the veiny alien intruders who play horrible music. We'd come along and play our instruments and kill them to death.

Where are you from?
3 of us are from the northern suburbs and 2 of us are from the western suburbs of Melbourne.

Has being independent taught you anything about the music industry in terms of recording your EP?
Being independant hasn't necessarily taught us anything about recording, because Stu and Trav studied music industry skills at TAFE. But in terms of getting our music out into the world and organising our own shows and things like that, we have always done it ourselves, and learnt things along the way that teach us how to go about things better in the future.

Your high energy shows for someone who never went to one what would they expect?
Expect the following: Punk jumps, stories about members uncontrollable bowels, sweat, lots of sweat, torn pants, singalongs and lots of fun!

What are the names of everyone in the band and what are some nicknames you call them?
Travis Suttie - singer. Smav, Smavvy, Smavlon

Stu Watts - Lead guitar/backup vox. Mr. Stubz, Stubza, Mr. "I'm Hungry"

James Karagiozis - Bass/backup vox. Bassy, Mr. Bass, Dickhead

Frank Morda - Drums. Franky "Excuses" Morda

Dave Turner - Rhythm Guitar. The New Guy, Davis

With christmas coming up what are some christmas wishes for you boys?
New gear. Money. Fame. Power. Women

    Music Monday 7

You know at sleepovers how you just love singing with the Bestie, or singing with a group even. or even that awesome news when you find out your two fave singers are singing a song together OHMYGOD!!
I got you covered on the best Musical duets.

    1. No Air- Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks

The song topped the singles charts of Australia and New Zealand and reached the top five in countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada. In 22 countries in 2008 saw the likes of this song climbing the charts. After weeks of climbing the chart, the song reached a peak of number three, becoming Sparks' highest charting single to date.
The Song is so damn catchy, a romantic love ballad, great lyrics, and perfect harmonies, there is nothing better than this.

    2. Kiss Me Again- We The In Crowd Feat Alex Gaskarth
those butterflies in the stomach, just what we needed with my favourite couple, even though they have broken up now, I was not expected this song or the romance in this song so when i heard it i was wrapped!, Alex Gaskarth wasn't in the original version of the song but Alex  said since WATIC and ATL were touring together, he sang it with them live a few times just for fun. Then WATIC decided that they liked it a lot and actually wanted to put his vocals on the track which resulted in the one of the best duets.

3.Professional Griefers- Deadmau5 Feat Gerard Way
I'm so glad to see Gerard colaborating with someone like deadmau5!
This song was the most unlikely combo but isn't it just hell cool when you listen to it,It is currently the most expensive electronic dance music video of all time.Plus the song being featured on Fifa 13 for all the football fans out there, robotic cats for all the cat lovers, there is nothing this music doesn't have.

4.Sour Candy- Carly Rae Jepsen Feat Josh Ramsay

For those people who haven't heard of these artists, Carly is the singer of Call me Maybe, She's is a Canadian recording artist and singer-songwriter from Mission, British Columbia.Josh is the lead singer from the band Mariana's Trench who are a Canadian pop punk band from Vancouver, British Columbia, formed in 2001.The Vocals match perfectly,The video is entertaining as hell, not going to lie when I first heard this song I had it on repeat for a really long time, why would someone only listen to this song once!!.

personal stories from me are just hard to get out aha
I remember going up to the front of the stage at Bondi Blitz looking out on the magificant Beach of Bondi it was a great day and the surf was up. the energy on stage was incredible and the boys sound wasn't like anything i had heard. looking around at the fans around me they were rocking out and that was awesome, shouting things out to the boys and having a convo while they were on stage, multitasking right?, the boys came off stage after their set and the fans crowded around them.
they got talking to all their fans, hugging them. chatting and signing stuff. That Day we learnt so much about a band we hadn't heard of before. I was standing there basically starstruck when lead Singer Jay asked if i wanted a photo with him... I couldn't throw my phone at my cousin quick enough!!, talking to wil and dan about their day and the performance they just did, we learnt their love for surf and skating from talking to pidgey, and how hard they rocked out from flakey..
I remembered this day too well because I vowed it wasn't the last i would see of the boys or talk to them.

Congrats on 'Never Have I Ever' EP,What is your favourite track and insperation behind it?
Thanks! One of our favourite tracks would be Light It Up. It’s a story about the memories a murdered boy has of the house he and his friends grew up in and hung out at (as well as murdered in). Somewhat brutal but it does have an inspirational twist to it.

    Where are you from?
Melbourne – although it doesn’t look like it.

    How was playing with Cartel?

It was so much fun! We've grown up listening to them and playing cartel covers, so it was crazy to see them up close and actually talk to them.

What are some other favourite bands and musical influences?
Fall Out Boy, Mayday Parade, Lost Prophets,Kids In Glass Houses, We Are The In Crowd, The Cab are a few fave bands.

Are there any upcoming shows Fans should be excited for? We've got a bunch of shows coming up including Rocktober w/Closure in Moscow, Epic youth Fest w/New Empire, Springfest and Bring On The Summer festival in Adelaide which will be heaps of fun!

How has the music developed from when you first started?

Our music has changed a lot as new members have joined. Our music is more dynamic and catchy than when we first began.

What do you like to do when your not making music?

Eat dumplings and pick on Julian.

In three words, how would you describe your live shows?

    Energetic. Fun. Entertaining.

What’s one thing myself and the readers wouldn’t know about Hometown?
We can dance. Josh is also straight...

your merch store has just started up, what are some goodies fans can save up for?

Yeah we've finally put up our merch store with new T designs, wrist bands, necklaces and CD's. Check our Facebook for deets

How did all you meet and what influenced you to start a band together?

We met through various band members and previous members friends of friends. Plus Tim is from the internet.

you have played support to so many talented artists how was this experience for you?

It's always so much fun to play alongside bands that we are fans of. We always get a buzz sharing the stage with great local and international bands and it is one of the best parts of what we do.

one word to describe this experience so far?

    Fun!

    My Favourite Accident

Ladies and Gentlemen, May I introduce Australia's Favourite Pop Punk Band that will kick your ears' arses Like an A-bomb set to explode, My Favourite Accident is a dangerous unit that just wants to blow you away! so Friends... Change is coming and that change is not an Accident ;)

    Where are you from?
We're based around the South Eastern 'burbs of Melbourne.

Tell us about your music - how did you develop your sound?
When we first started playing we were very straight forward pop punk, then as time went on we started getting more technical as we became better musicians.

    Best Song To play live?
I think our favourite song to play live would have to be 'You're Gonna Get a Blogging.'

Your band is being called "My Favourite Accident is a dangerous unit that just wants to blow you away!'' As a band how is this going to be acheived?

When we get up on stage we go all out. We go crazy and try and get everyone moving and having a good time. Basically we want to blow your head off... in a good way.

if you could cover any song what would it be?
If we were any good at our instruments we'd try and cover a Four Year Strong song, probably something from the Rise or Die Trying album. Check it out if you haven't.

Were you generally impressed with the postive feedback and constantly growing musical fan base?

Positive feedback is always rad to hear but we value negative feedback as well. It gives us something to work on and to challenge ourselves. We're always down to hang out with people at shows and chill out so come say hey if you see us.

If you could meet anyone on this earth, who would it be?
Mila Kunis because she's a massive babe.

Who or what inspired you to become an artist? How or in what way?
I think everyone in the band would agree Blink-182 was the reason we all wanted to be in a band and the reason we started playing instruments. They made it seem so fun hanging out playing music with your best mates.

What are the names and nicknames of everyone in the band?
    Danny aka Danny
    James aka Uncle Jimmy, Jox
    Mark aka Marky, Russell Brand
    Chris aka Stoney, Hulk
    Jayden aka Jayds, Jaydawg

What is your insperation to your songs?
To write fun, catchy tunes we love playing live.
12.One word to describe your music?
    Baby-making-music... That's one word, right?

     The Band consists of:
    Joey Cirillo - Lead Vocals
    Luke Mann - Guitars/Vocals
    Dylan Giannakopoulos - Guitars/Vocals
    Sam Berry- Bass
    Roddy Martinez - Drums

Recording their debut EP in Los Angeles, Way With Words were fortunate enough to be flown over to the USA after winning the inaugural Red Bull Bedroom Jam competition to record their debut EP, After much Anticipation we got the opportunity to talk to these lads.

How was playing the acoustic afternoon?
We had a great time playing. We have found that there is a more chilled atmosphere at acoustic shows which is a nice change sometimes

Describe how it was playing with Cartel?
We are so grateful to be able to share the stage with such an incredible band. They are one of the best live bands I have seen.

What is your favourite song of the "Better Off Friends” EP?
If I was going to have to put it down to one, I would have to say probably either Next Time or Transparent. But Lost & Found is becoming one of my favorites to play live.

What is the insperation for that song?
Our biggest inspiration for those songs and majority of our other songs comes from our bassist Sam. Joey has such a big man crush on him, that he can’t resist writing songs about him.

So i heard you have a new drummer Roddy Martinez How did you find him?
A good friend of mine, Marty from Daylight Hours, went to school with him and got him to get in contact with us and then we went from there.

The road to success started fueled by Red Bull’s Bedroom Jam contest,How did this help you start off?
Red Bull have helped us out so much by giving us the opportunity of a life time to record in the Red Bull Studios is LA which lead to the release of Better off Friends. The people at Red Bull are just the best and if we ever need help with anything, they are always there to offer suggestions and lend a hand where they can. We are forever grateful for what they have done for us.

What do you enjoy doing the most when you are not performing or working on your music?
When I am not playing music or doing something musically related, my next biggest passion is making toasted sandwiches. Toasted ham and cheese with peri peri sauce is the shit!

Are there any plans for new music or Are you currently writing?
While we wait for Joey to get better and finish his VCE, we intend on doing lots of writing again but I can’t say to much more than that. You will just have to wait and see.

What are some goals you would love to achieve as a band?
I personally would love to be able to play a massive festival like Soundwave or Big Day Out, or be able to tour another country like England or America.

Do you have a message for fans?
I just want to say a big thanks to anyone that has ever taken the time to come to our show or listened to our music. You guys mean the world to us, and we wouldn’t be here without your support!

    Channel V OZ Artist Nominations!

It is that time of the year, the time where Australian artists go head to head in the music industry to see who takes the crown for Australian Music champ. top 50 announced on Saturday Morning, the fight is on and for 50 days now we have until top 10 is announced.

this year we have a MASSIVE line up of Australian Artists that are eliable for their fans to vote..

so this is my views on the artists we have up this year,it is deffinately going to be a tough call for sure.
    1. 360- Australian Rapper Matt Colwell who raps better known for his stage name 360, he took the prize last year but winning Australia's hearts with his little versing Central coast band Short Stack. This is what Shaun Diviney, Lead singer of Short Stack put up after 360 put a video up, of course he was eating his words when 360 hailed Champ in the comp last year, my question is could 360 take it for another year? the answer is obvious yes he can!!, with his new music coming out shortly and his tours rapidly growing, 360 is one to watch in this comp.

    2. Justice Crew
Justice Crew is an all-male Australian hip-hop dance and pop music group winning the 4th season of Australia's got talent, and that was just the start for the Pop Group, 2010 they signed with Sony Records,  1 October 2012, it was announced that Justice Crew have signed to American rapper Pitbull's record label. With 5 Music videos, and one to come out very soon, Justice crew made a name for themselves, They also Made a huge name for themselves after supporting the biggest British Musicians right now One Direction on their Up All night Tour, so my concluding statement is that with Justice Crews millions of fans and their famous Music Friends who could promote the lads they could just take the cake this year.

    3. Nine Sons of Dan
Nine Sons Of Dan is a band originating from Surfers Paradise, on the Gold Coast in Australia, being congratulated on being the Wild Card pick this year, these boys are being dubbed "The Next Big Thing" the band since then has been gaining popularity and released their second single 'She's So Fine' on the 6th of January 2012.Nine Sons of Dan has stolen the hearts of teenage girls everywhere they are relatable teenage heart throbs with their catchy music and determination, my concluding statement here is Wild Cards can win the OZ artist comp last year New Empire were in the final three and they were the Wild Card Last year so with their fans determination I think surely we could see a lot more from these boys in the comp.

    Breakaway

Breakaway is a Rock/ Pop band Associated in Sydney, Australia, influnced by You Me At Six, 30 Seconds To Mars, Deaf Havana, Blink 182, Anberlin, Saosin, Sum 41, and My Chemical Romance They Had A Few Seconds to Spare to Answer A Few Questions for me about their Debut EP "One Minute | One Moment" which is coming to Itunes very soon.

I love the artwork for One Minute | One Moment EP what is the insperation for that?
It steamed from the lyrics in the EP and how people hide their true selves behind psychological barriers and how people can also be pretty two-faced. A little brutal haha.

When will the EP be released on itunes?
Hopefully by the end of October!

Describe the playing on stage for you guys?
Playing on stage is an honour for us. Just playing the music we have created and that we love to an audience of any size is a pleasure. Its a very uncanny feeling but we live for it.

Where did you get your name "Breakaway"?
We recorded our EP back in February of this year and were booked under the name "Finders Keepers" initially but on day 6 of recording we were listening to our song "Here I Am" and the word "Breakaway" is actually in it and it dawned on us.

What are the names of everyone in the band and what are some nicknames you have?
Our names are Sam Biland, Mitchell (Mitch or Moo Moo) Borton, Richard (Rich) Mammoliti, Matt (Stitch) Mcniel and Michael (Miki) Bonic. We have a lot of other nicknames and inside jokes but they're pretty inappropriate haha.

For someone who hasn't seen you live what are some things to expect?
They can expect a full performance not just a set of songs as well as a really powerful vocal performance.

What do you enjoy doing the most when you are not performing or working on your music?
We all have a lot of individual hobbies including golf and skateboarding but 4 of us also study full time at university. We are pretty boring in general though haha we love just enjoying the company of our friends whether it just be at someones house or out and about in the city.

      Where are you from?
We are all from Sydney and generally the hills district but Sam only moved to Australia last year after living in England for most of his life. That's why he has a bit of an accent if you hear him talk.

What is Some Current Favourite Music?
At the moment we are really into bands like Linkin Park, You Me At Six, Deaf Havana, Mallory Knox, 30 Seconds to Mars, Pierce the Veil and Sound of Seasons among many many others.

At What age did you develop your love for music?
We all started playing music in our early teenage years and have been in multiple bands before Breakaway.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?
We plan to see out the year with the official release of our EP followed by an EP tour hopefully spanning down most of the east coast.

     Who are your major influences?
Our major influences are definitely bands like Deaf Havana, 30 Seconds to Mars and You Me At Six.

What genre of music do you consider your work to be?
We consider our music to be pop rock.

Where do you see yourself in 5 - 10 years time?
That is definitely still in this band making music, touring internationally and being able to sustain our lives solely off this band.

    Call The Shots

Imagine Pokemon Turned Human and Loved Music Then You Would Have Call The Shots.
Call The Shots are a five piece band pop punk act hailing from Brisbane,Australia.
Call The Shots are currently working on a new 7 track EP due to be released later this year.
With More Solid Touring,Call The Shots are the band to watch for 2012, with their Plans of World Domination in the works.I got to speak with Lead Singer Josh Setterfield about the Band.

    Order Of Appearance: Damien Thompson-Bass,Greg Mandall-Guitar.Josh Setterfield-Vocals,Riley Boyce-Drums,Dion Cerreto-Guitar.

How did you get the name Call The Shots?
we were under a previous name that didn''t really suit us and because the band had changed members around and stuff we thought it was time to refresh the name. we chose call the shots after a friend suggested it because it really appealed to what we wanted to say our message was. we wanted to take charge and 'call the shots' (ha! GAYYYYYYY)

If you could cover any song what would it be?
personally, i want to do Skater Boy by Avril hahahaha :Ptongue but the other guys dont want to. i love Simple Plan also so any of their songs haha. but as a band i think the coolest thing we've covered lately (and funnest to play) is Call Me Maybe.

For someone who hasn't been to a Call The Shots concert what can they expect?
Alot of jumping around, jumping off things and telling you to put your hands up and just generally try to have a good timewink thats all we want at shows is for people to have fun and enjoy themselves.

How has your music evolved since you first started in the band?
i honestly think that it's matured abit.
people havent really heard much off our new CD as its about to be released soon, but the songs on it, compared to crank up the happy, are alot more from the heart and not so much revengy/teenagy. overall i'm way happy with it.

When is the release for the new EP?
ahhhh. it keeps getting tossed around with the final date, hense why we haven't actually announced a release date yet. but it SHOULD be soon!

What are the names and nicknames of everyone in the band?
We call Dion: NOID (dion backwards haha)

Now your first music video has been out for some time, How was the filming for that and describe the process of the music video?
haha we actually did this one ourselves! so it was quite terrible as we aren't really the acting types haha we just used a home camcorder and tried our best with what we had, and we were actually quite stoked with how it turned out (we thought it was going to be ALOT worse than it already is hahha)

Describe the sound of Call The Shots?
i think the best way to describe our sound:
Early Pop-Punk with a touch of F*CKING MOSH haha

What do you enjoy doing the most when you are not performing or working on your music?
usually just hanging out, parties, sometimes videogames, THEMEPARKS :Dgrin haha i don't really ever do anything other than music stuff though! haha

What is Some Current Favourite Music?
At the moment i'm right back into 'Goldfinger', These Kids Wear Crowns, Simple Plan and a heap of pop artists! haha just going through one of those phases.

At what age did you develop your love for music?
i always have actually. i have videos of me when i was like 5, smashing a drumkit haha.
i obviously wasn't very good, but it's just always been there, a heap of my family members played instruments or were in bands and since i was 12 and saw Simple Plan on TV for the first time, i always thought that's what i wanted to do.

What is your insperation for the new EP?
the new ep has alot of different sort of songs and meanings, it's called 'When Everything Goes Wrong' so alot of it was based on when i was down but trying to keep myself up.
there's songs on the record from trying to help people through times they want to take their own lives to times that you just want to hang out and have an awesome night and forget the problems of everyday.
in a way it seems like a darker record, but even though some songs are about sadder things, they all mean that i/we wanna get through it.

What is the Most Embarassing Thing that has happened onstage?
i can't really think of embrrasing things. alot of things go wrong with sound equiptment and stuff though!
last sydney tour, i was in the middle of the circle pit with my wireless microphone when it just died... i was standing there screaming into it trying to get it to work and looking stupid haha

If you weren't in a band what jobs would you have?
i would most probably want to work as a music producer, like recording and mixing artists and bands
if the band ever fails, thats what i will go for. i need to be around music

If you had to choose a quote (or a line) to describe what motivates you day to day, what would it be?
Once you stop caring what people think, you have waaaaaayyyyy more fun :Ptongue
